I was chatting to a Ukrainian friend last night, and every few minutes or so she’d be disconnected. After a few minutes she would appear online again. “Another air raid then Maria?” Yes she said, told her to get to a shelter and to be safe. She said there were no shelters where she lived, and she’d be ok, she just didn’t like the dark.

So I promised to stay online with her, just shooting the shit with her and trying to make her laugh a lot.

Around 5am she disconnected completely.

I was in a anguish as I woke up, checked WhatsApp and saw she was online, which was a relief. I’ve lost contact with several Ukrainian friends since the war with Russia started in 2014 and I dread to not hear or see their online status hasn’t changed for 24 hours.

And this is why I don’t give a shit about the 130 odd dead Russians from the massacre at Crocus Theatre. Russians didn’t give a fuck about bombing a theatre of people in Mariupol. Or murdering in cold blood people in Bucha or Izyum. 130. It’s a good start.
